DAVID BRUBECK: JAZZ MAN
It was a memorable experience creating this photo illustration because I had a wide variety of elements to develop something special. Photoshop filters can be tricky even to the most proficient end-user. Multiple overlays were used, along with musical vector shapes I created in Illustrator.

ALL-STARS
In 2010, Hearst acquired multiple newspapers, formed them into a unified group, and they wanted to make a splash with the sports community. They wanted to highlight local All-Stars with a strong cover design, and they selected me to take the project. It was known that I’m skilled with ‘pathing’ in photoshop and possess a skill with kinetic layouts, so I was eager to impress my new bosses.

MOONSTRUCK
Anytime an anniversary came around there were high expectations in delivering a powerful cover. I knew that thousands of other newspapers would use the iconic ‘man on the moon’ photo, but how can I make it different? For one thing, the headline had to be unique and have impact. After hitting a wall with multiple editors on a headline, I came up with ‘MOONSTRUCK’ and everyone collectively cheered and said ‘that’s it!’ I super-imposed the great headline behind the iconic shot, while integrating the story. This cover also brought home a first place award.
